This time of year, most people in Kansas City, and the outlying areas, can drive only 10-15 minutes to a seasonal local farmers market! If you haven’t been to one before, you’re truly missing out. Hundreds of vegetables, fruits, baked goods, sauces, jams/jellies, beverages, and so much more! Locally Good personally sells Artisanal Vinegars, herbal remedies including Elderberry Syrup, beverage enhancers, herbal tea blends, and 100% natural personal care products…and we’re just 1 of 37 vendors at our Lenexa market! Our market, like many others, does holiday/winter markets year round, but prime produce season is mostly May-October. Stephanie Poetter of Locally Good, will teach you things to keep an eye out for and questions to ask your FM vendors, to best get exactly what you are looking for. What exactly is “conventional”? What does “organic” really mean? What are “permaculture”, “Certified Naturally Grown” and “all natural using organic practices”? How are “natural”, “all natural” and “100% all natural” different, and what are the standards?
We’ve all seen the produce that is sold in most grocery stores, but what about those unique vegetables and varieties that you’ve never seen before? We will discuss more unique including heirloom varieties, and what makes those items so special. We will discuss the many ways in which different produce can be used, simple recipes to celebrate seasonal produce, and more! After the 1.5 hr class, there will be a 30 minute question and answer session.
